Fireworks – are they “bang” out of order?
Some may call me a party pooper but I’ve never understood the charm of fireworks. Yes I do see how captivating they can be when you attend one of those professional displays that have music playing in the background and a symphony of colours shimmering in the sky as the crackers go off to the sound of the beat. But I’m still puzzled about the attraction of the small displays accompanied by loud unpleasant bangs that happen mostly in people’s back garden.
My own feelings aside, the noise that fireworks cause can be intimidating for small babies, pets and the elderly. The bright colours and effects in fireworks are produced by a cocktail of chemicals. When fireworks go off (more…)

Calculate your carbon footprint
I must admit I knew very little about the effects of global warming and the severity of the issue until I watched “An Inconvenient Truth”. My husband and I watched it a few days ago and I can safely say it horrified me to think of what we are doing to this planet. Global warming is real. It’s simple – if we don’t do anything about it, Planet Earth suffers as do we – no NOT future generations!! Us… now… we will be affected. The good news is (more…)
